A few short hours of reef fishing produced plenty of action today, with a strong yellowtail snapper bite keeping Andrew Molacek and his friends from Minnesota busy.
The reef fishing was fast and furious, making for a fun and productive start to the trip.
Fast Yellowtail Snapper Action
Yellowtail snapper were biting well, giving the group steady action over the reef.
These fish are a favorite in the Florida Keys because they are fun to catch and excellent on the table. When the bite turns on, reef fishing can produce nonstop action in a relatively short amount of time.
Live-Baiting for Sailfish and Pelagic Species
After the strong snapper bite, we spent the latter part of the trip live-baiting for sailfish and other pelagic species.
Although no sailfish were seen or reported today, we still managed to catch a nice shark and a mahi-mahi.
That variety is one of the best parts of fishing around Marathon. A trip can start with reef species and quickly turn into an opportunity for larger offshore predators.
Another Great Day of Fishing in the Florida Keys
Even without a sailfish in the mix, the combination of fast yellowtail snapper action, a mahi, and a shark made for a great day on the water.
