Swordfish
Deep Drop Charters

Drop baits into the deep and see what comes up. We drift for swordfish more than 1,000 feet down on electric reels — and when the deep dropping is on, queen snapper, snowy grouper, and golden tilefish come up from water most anglers never touch.

SwordFishing

Battling the Gladiator of the Deep

Swordfishing is a deep-water game played on the bottom of the ocean. Using electric reels, we send heavy baits down past 1,000 feet to where swordfish hunt squid in near-total darkness. The bites can be subtle or violent — and when a big one comes tight, the fight back up from that depth is unlike anything else in sportfishing.

It’s condition-based fishing at its purest. To drift baits cleanly that deep, the current and wind have to line up so the boat tracks right and your bait holds in the strike zone. Your captain reads the conditions each morning and makes the call.

Long, quiet drifts get broken by sudden, heart-pounding action — and every so often a swordfish lights up the surface with a jump you’ll remember for years.

Other Deep Drop Species

If you want to target the fish that live in even deeper water such as swordfish, snowy grouper, and other deep-dwelling species — we run dedicated deep drop trips using electric reels at depths of 1,000 feet and beyond. It’s a completely different style of offshore fishing that requires its own trip.

Deep Dropping

A World Most Anglers Never Touch

Deep dropping sends baits to the bottom in 500 to 800 feet of water, often a little closer to land than the swordfish grounds and more forgiving when the wind and current won’t cooperate. Electric reels do the cranking — the mystery of what’s coming up is all yours.

Make no mistake — this isn’t a consolation prize. The deep ledges and mud bottom off Marathon hold some of the best-eating fish in the ocean, fish most anglers never get to see, and you never know what’s on the line until it breaks the surface.

Deep dropping fills the fish box in a way few trips can. If you want dinner from a thousand feet down, this is how you get it.

Built for the Deep

Electric Reels Provided

Cranking a fish up from 1,000 feet by hand isn’t fishing — it’s punishment. We run purpose-built electric reels so you can focus on the fight, not the grind.

A True Trophy Hunt

Swordfish are one of the ocean’s great gamefish — powerful, unpredictable, and earned. Landing one out of Marathon puts you in rare company.

Dinner From the Deep

Queen snapper, tilefish, and deep-water grouper are some of the finest eating fish anywhere. We’ll fillet your catch dockside, ready for the grill.
