Mackerel and Mahi are two of the species that have been dominating the middle Keys this week. Some big King Mackerel have been hitting the charter boat docks in Marathon, and nice Mahi have been reported up and down the island chain during the past week. Best areas to find Dolphin (Mahi) has been in the offshore blue water once you hit the gulstream current line. Lately this has been in around 630' so roughly 12-13 miles offshore. This can change drastically overnight so be sure to check your favorite satellite website for up to date Gulfstream information. Look for floating debris, birds or weed lines as those are the target areas.
King, Spanish, and Cero Mackerel have been showing up in good numbers on the inside reef patches and in hawk channel off of the middle keys. Combine that with some excellent snapper fishing lately, and you have some fantasticreef fishing. Also, plenty of large preditor sharks showing up in the chum slicks lately with Bulls, Lemons and Black tips most likely to show. It's a great time of year to get in awesome fishing as the waters cool and migratory fish move into the area. Sailfish, Wahoo, and Blackfin Tuna have also been frequently showing up on angler's bent rods along the reef edge in 100-200' depths.
